Prenatal dreams tchämong in Korea

The aim of this thesis is to present tchämong, a specific Korean dream of conception, that if properly interpretated can provide some information pertaining to the conception and other qualities of the unborn child to the dreamer. This thesis contextualizes tchämong into a broader category of dreams of conception, and then focuses on its specific features in Korea's culture. The fundamental aim of this paper is to exemplify the claim that tchämong is embedded in the system of traditional beliefs, practices and myths, which act as a main factor in continuing this tradition into modern times. The primary focus is given to tchämong within the framework of pregnancy practices and beliefs and close relation between tchämong and myths, which is expressed especially in its symbolism.
The Rise of China and Its Impact on East Asia

History of international relations suggests that rising power brings challenges and creates unstable environment in the international system. This thesis deals with the rise of China and its implications to the East Asia region. China has experienced massive economic growth over the last few decades which is likely to influence the dynamics not only of the region, but also of the international system as a whole. There is an ongoing discussion in the academic literature regarding the rise of China. In this thesis, the offensive neorealism theory of John J, Mearsheimer is employed. This paper focuses on the region of East Asia, namely to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Since the region is heavily penetrated by the US power, its position is also discussed. The question is how China will behave when it gets more powerful and what strategies the neighbouring countries choose in order to deal with China's rising power. The theory assumes that rising great power strive to dominate its region in order to establish regional hegemony. The main aim of this thesis is to examine whether or not the aforementioned states act according to the prism of offensive neorealism.
The development and function of traditional Korean women's clothing from the early 19th century to the present

This thesis analyses the development of traditional Korean women's clothing from the early 19th century to the present. It briefly describes the different kinds of female hanbok by corresponding occasions or by the status of its owner. It also concerns the themes of symbolism of colours and embroidery. The main objective of the thesis is the characteristics of the changing form and function of traditional female clothing with regard to the developing Korean society. The work is divided into chapters chronologically and covers the period from the late Choseon up to the 21st century.
Military Prostitution and its Organization in Colonial Korea

The aim of this work is to describe the issue of military prostitution during the colonial period in Korea. After a brief introduction and terminological and methodological definition, which will define further considerations discussed, paper describes the historical background of military prostitution in colonial Korea. A description of the socio-economic consequences of the historical development with focus on specifics of military prostitution in Korea, resulting from historical and socio-economic context will follow. The work also outlines the issue of legal and illegal prostitution and its place in Korean history in the context of the colonial period. After the theoretical part, the task is to present context, the work will elaborate the issue of military prostitution, focusing on the description of the structure and organization of military prostitution during the Japanese occupation of Korea from its beginnings until its formal repeal, respectively. The Iconography of Buddhist Art in Korea

in English: The aim of this thesis is to present the Korean Buddhist sculpture throughout the Korean history. The thesis presents Buddhist iconography at the beginning, focusing on the Korean art especially. Afterwards the main and most important Buddhist sculpture masterpieces are introduced. The sculptures represent certain period of Korean history. The work contains Korean Buddhist sculptures from the times of introducing Buddhism in Korea, i.e. Three Kingdoms period, and then presents the Buddhist sculpture from this time on, in Unified Silla, Koryŏ Kingdom and Chosŏn Kingdom. Representation of the Korean Peninsula in the news of Czech Television in years 2015-2020

The diploma thesis introduces the media image of Korean Peninsula within the news of Czech Television from 2015 to 2020. Korean Peninsula is an incredibly interesting area in terms of history, politics, economics, culture and international relations, including relations between the two Koreas and the Czech Republic. Czech Television was chosen to depict the two state units existing on the Korean Peninsula, which should - due to its specific position as a public service medium - provide viewers objective and impartial news. The theoretical part introduces the basic concepts and theories, focusing on the media public service broadcasting, media construction of reality, gatekeeping and agenda-setting. Considerable attention is also given to Czech Television itself and the Korean Peninsula, where among the other things, the key historical moments of this region are briefly explained and the media environment of both Koreas is overviewed closely. In the practical part, the collected data is analyzed, both quantitative and qualitative methods. Within the content analysis, the data are sorted by frequency, order, topic or tone of the content. Sexual minorities and their communities in Republic of Korea

The main aim of this thesis is to present the minority sexual orientation as a sociocultural phenomenon in the Republic of Korea. After a brief introduction regarding history and general culture, the thesis will focus on community movement of the members of sexual minorities as a specific subculture of modern society, from the formative beginnings all the way to the present. The next part is dedicated to the influence of the internet and related changes in the lives of the minorities. Then the thesis will look deeper into the situation of social movements which means it will present the main interest groups and organizations not only fighting the societal prejudice against homosexuality, but also defending the rights of sexual minorities. This particular part will also pay attention to the lives of the members of sexual minorities within university community at selected Korean universities. The thesis will also introduce socio-cultural events, such as festivals. The final part will focus on legal provisions of sexual minorities and their image in the entertainment industry. Considering the focus of this thesis, the point is mainly to gather and organize available information into a coherent and structured whole.

The food as a part of traditional rituals in Korea

The aim of this paper is to provide a brief exploration of the Korean ritual system within the framework of relevant religio-philosophical systems, analysis of representative rituals, description of their structure and the use of ritual props and foods. Examined are the cooking and serving requirements of the meals and the function they have within the rituals. Special attention is paid to ritual meals of Buddhist monks, which are examined in comparison with ritual offerings as made to ancestors, the tradition which is widespread and vividly evident, even within today's Confucian culture. This work describe and study process of Christianization in Korea from its early period, and reveals existing researchers task and theories in this field. The main focus of the work is to compare history of the main Christian denominations in order of their introduction to the territory of Korean peninsula until end of the second World War and consecutive Korean War.
